Delighting & Highlighting . . .

“Delight yourself in the Lord,
    and he will give you the desires of your heart.

 Commit your way to the Lord;
    trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
    and your justice as the noonday.” Psalm 37:4-6

Last week I gave notice that for the month of May there would be no recipes, just a short encouragement to spend time in prayer. Psalm 37: 4 has long been a favorite verse of mine, a reminder to delight in God. Last week I wrote of time with God in the context of having afternoo tea with Him, something I truly delight in. This week, I wonder how you would choose to describe delighting in the Lord? What activity or specific timeframe would work for you to choose to spend extra time with God each day, delighting in Him?

Delighting in something requires set aside time. It means that nothing will get in the way of the special moment you have looked forward to. It evokes images of children giggling, teens cheering and adults oohing and ahhing.

Delighting in something is usually not about work, but relaxing into a moment. All your senses focus in on the one thing, what you see, hear, smell, taste and feel. To do lists and what comes next leave your mind and you begin to experience in real time whatever you are zeroed in on.

As we progress through May, having passed Mother’s Day and the first round of graduations and end of the school year activities, take some time to delight in the Lord. Psalm 46 puts it this way:

“Be still, and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10

I am headed out to my screened in porch to be still and delight in the Lord. Won’t you join me? It is the highlight of my day.
